How to create an origami crane

Establish side A which is the side with the design and will be the outside and side B which is the inside of the crane.

Here we'll do a Valley Fold, we'll take the top left hand corner & fold it diagonally to meet the bottom right hand corner (both corners are marked with dots). End shape should match shape on right.

Here we'll repeat step 2, but this time unfold your paper, and take the bottom left hand corner and valley fold to meet the top right hand corner. End shape should match shape on right.

At this point your paper should look like mine, with an X shape.

Here we'll do a Mountain Fold, unfold the paper, we'll take the bottom of the paper & fold it to meet the top (both corners are marked with dots). End shape should match shape on right.

This is what your paper should look like this far.

Push the center & your paper will look like the one on the left. I labeled the sides that you will fold down (inward) towards the center line. It should look like the picture in the next step.

Now that your shape looks like mine on the left, you are going to take the flap that is still open and flatten it down to look like the picture in the next step. This is a modified squash fold.

Does your shape look like mine? If so, this is where the fun starts, and we start to create our crane!

The dotted lines indicate where we will fold the 3 top flaps. We will do the ice cream fold on flaps 2 &3 into the solid black line. Flap 1 will fold down to the black dot pictured above.

After step #12, your shape should resemble mine. These flaps are still folded.

Unfold the 3 flaps and slightly pull up on the top shape. Your shape should resemble the one on the left. REMEMBER to open up to the top fold. This is called the Petal Fold.

Pushing both flaps in towards each other and flatten down, your shape should look like the one on your left.

Flip the shape over & repeat steps #11-14, your shape should resemble the shape on the left. REMEMBER, the bottom two flaps should be able to be moved separately, if not, flip the shape upside down.

Here, we will do an ice cream fold along the dotted lines, each edge meeting the black dots in the center of the shape.

Following step #16, your shape should look like mine on the left.

Flip the shape over and repeat step #16-17. Your shape should now resemble mine on the left.

The dotted lines indicate where we will fold on the bottom two flaps. The left flap folds left and the right flap folds to the right.

Now your shape should look like this!

Unfold both flaps, pull the right side out to the right and up (inward), and flatten. That is the Inside Reverse Fold. We will do the same for the left side.

After step #21, your shape should resemble the picture above.

Notice the dotted line on the left flap, that is where we will fold it down along that line. This step is similar to step #19 & 20.

After following step #23, this is what the shape will look like.

Here we will unfold the left side that was previously folded, and it will look like this.

He we will do the Inside Reverse Fold. The shape should look like this when you're done. Refer to step #21 if you need a reference, the steps are similar.

Fold the top flat down until it cannot be folded down anymore.

Your shape will resemble the picture on the left. Now we will flip the shape over, and do the same for the other flap.

This is what our crane will look like with both flaps folded down. This is the second to last step.

VOILA! :D Take the bird by it's tail and set it upright, similar to the picture above and shazam! This is our crane!
